How to add your Spotify Artist Key

If you're using Spotify's new Artist Profile Protection feature, you can easily add your Artist Key to your Identity Music account to automatically approve your releases.

Written by Liane Abrams

Spotify's Artist Profile Protection is being rolled out to tackle the problem of unauthorised uploads to artist profiles.

Artists who have opted into Spotify's APP are able to approve or deny releases via Spotify for Artists before that content goes live on their profile.

If you are opted into the programme, you will be given a unique Artist Key - when releases are delivered to your Spotify account with that Key, they are automatically approved for your profile. Releases delivered without that Key are held in your Spotify for Artists account for you to manually review.

Remember: Spotify Artist Profile Protection is being rolled out gradually, so you may not have access to it yet. You can find out more about Spotify APP here.

Find your Spotify Artist Key

If your account has been given access to Spotify's Artist Profile Protection and you have opted in, you will be able to find your Artist Key in your Spotify for Artists account.

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Go to Artist Profile Protection

  3. View and copy your Artist Key

Your Artist Key will be five groups of uppercase letters and numbers separated by hyphens. If the format of your Key is incorrect, it will not be able to be added to your distribution account.

Example Artist Key: ABC12-345DE-FGH67-89IJK-LM101

Add your Spotify Artist Key to your Identity Music account

Once you're logged into your Identity Music dashboard, go to Artists and select the Artist you want to add the Spotify Artist Key to.

Click into the Link Spotify Profiles section - if you haven't already got a Spotify profile connected here, add one by clicking 'Link Profile' and adding a Spotify artist page URL.

Click Edit Profile on the artist page in your dashboard, then scroll down to Add Artist Profiles. If you've successfully connected a Spotify profile, you will see the option to Add Key, as shown here:

Click Add Key, paste your Artist Key, then click Save Key.

Once saved, you'll see confirmation of your Artist Key as below:

What happens when a Spotify Artist Key is added to your Identity Music account

Once an artist profile has a Spotify Artist Key saved to it, every release that artist appears on will be delivered to Spotify with the Artist Key automatically included - so that Spotify accepts the delivery to the artist profile.

Releases sent with the Artist Key are automatically pre-approved on Spotify and won't need manual review in Spotify for Artists before release.

If an artist does not have Artist Profile Protection enabled or does not have Artist Profile Protection available in their Spotify for Artists account yet, releases will be delivered to Spotify as normal with no manual review needed.

Removing or Editing a Spotify Artist Key

To edit or remove a Spotify Artist Key that has been added to your Identity Music dashboard, you can open the Artist Profile editing page and click the Edit or Delete icons next to the saved Artist Key to make adjustments.

Warning: Removing the Artist Key from your dashboard will mean future releases are not delivered to Spotify with the Artist Key.

If Spotify Artist Profile Protection is still enabled, releases will need to be manually approved from Spotify for Artists before they can go live.
